I am a SUPERWOMAN
I have had this song in mind the whole week and I was a bit sceptical to write about it because I think I have written a similar post last year on women’s day.
Superwoman by Alicia Keys is one of my feel-good songs. It always lifts up my spirit, it’s such an empowering song. It reminds me of the power instilled in me by my creator – God himself. Everything starts with him. We are today because of him. I believe we are one of his greatest creations, look how we go through everything- we feel too much, we birth kings and queens of the universe, we care too much and we love deeply.
The lyrics in Alicia Keys’ hit song “Superwoman” tell of the transformation that women make even when they are tired and overworked. No matter what her burdens, the woman needs to find the strength to push through everything. “Even when I am a mess, I still put on a vest, with an S on my chest, oh yes I’m a superwoman.”
There is a proverb in Sepedi that goes “ Mosadi o tswara thipa ka bogaleng “ which means a woman is capable of doing everything. Throw her with stones and watch her build with them, put her in fire and watch her walk through it. I love how woman build from anything there are phased with, we overcome a lot on a daily basis. I guess that’s just in our DNA.
To the woman that raised us- our grandmother’s, mothers, aunts and sisters thank you so much for what you do for us. The prayers, the words of encouragement, the unconditional love. I am half the woman I am today because of the woman in my life. Forever grateful.
