Knowing your skin type will help you in investing in the right products and understanding your skin better. Any skincare products should be chosen with your skin type in mind. If the product isn’t right for your skin it won’t be as effective and could aggravate existing conditions, or even cause new ones.
The easy skincare test you can take in the comfort of your home:

The different types of skin:

Is your skin comfortable with residue on the tissue and your cheeks feeling okay? Oily skin.
Is your skin comfortable with residue on the tissue and tight cheeks? Combination skin.
Is your skin tight and not itchy or inflamed? Dry skin.
Is your skin tight and itchy and inflamed? Sensitive skin.
I can’t be the only one who gets confused with my skin type. Sometimes I get extremely oily during summer and a bit dry during the cold season. It’s normal for your skin to change, the change is caused by hormones, environment, seasonal change, medication, stress levels and even diet.
This winter season I was experiencing dry, tight skin and the Portia M day cream moisturizer that I normally wear year in year out was not effective. I did the tissue test, some research on my skin type and it turned out that all I need was some extra hydration.
Listen it got to a point where not even Vaseline petroleum jelly could save my skin. I bought the Magnolia tissue oil and added it into my moisturizer, but I had to reapply it during the day, it wasn’t quite effective. Used a NuSkin creamy hydrating masque and I have been using it 2 to 3 times a week, it was only effective when I was consistent with masking. I would skip a few days and it would be back to square one. Currently using the Johnsons fresh hydration water gel cleanser and my skin improved. Now my skin feels comfortable, I still use the Magnolia oil, but this time around in my night skincare routine.
My skin is finally feeling comfortable, less tight and the moisturizer now lasts the whole day. I don’t have to constantly reapply every few hours.
Knowing your skin type helps you narrow down the specific types of products you should be adding into your skincare regime. It helps you improve on the appearance of your skin as you will be investing in the right products. Treating the wrong skin type can lead to irritated skin, breakouts and premature ageing. Choosing the correct skincare routine for your skin type is essential for making your skin appear youthful, healthy and the best it can be.
